Michigan City Municipal Band Receives High Honor

Congratulations, everyone!
As you can see from the attached brochure, the Concerto for Euphonium and Band by Tom Davoren has been selected as a required composition in the 2025 Leonard Falcone International Euphonium and Tuba Festival. This is a very, very big deal (and one which we hoped and expected would happen). What makes it an even bigger deal is that the concerto has been selected as the final round composition in the “euphonium artist” category: the pinnacle of the festival. Wow!
The work was commissioned by the Michigan City Municipal Band. The band features a number of members of the Valparaiso University community, including alumni and faculty.
Here is a reminder of the first three performances, in which many of you–along with GySgt. Diaz and me–played one, two, or all three.
1. Soft premiere of the second movement “Mesto”

2. World premiere

(Performed with masks on and everyone six feet apart! The attached photo was taken by Aran Kessler.)
3. Official Michigan City premiere
Michigan City Municipal Band

You can all be proud of this honor. The composition exists and is popular because of the Michigan City Municipal Band commission, and because of its success in the first performances.
Bravo!
