The community is invited to a special concert on Friday, March 1 at 7 p.m. to kick-off the spring outreach tour of the Bach Institute at Valparaiso University. The Chapel of the Resurrection will ring with historic Lutheran music by Heinrich Schütz, J.S. Bach and Felix Mendelssohn as well as recent compositions by Abbie Betinis and Robert Hobby. The concert will feature Bach’s cantata “Nimm, was dein ist, und gehe hin.” The audience is invited to join in singing hymns from the rich tradition of Lutheran hymnody including “A Mighty Fortress” and “O Day Full of Grace” and contemporary Lutheran hymns by Susan Palo Cherwien and Marin Jacobson. Guest organist Charles Raasch will inspire the gathering through improvisations and leading the assembly in song. Valparaiso University’s Chorale and Bach Choir will be joined by brass and strings including Diego Piedra, violinist and conductor of the Valparaiso University Symphony Orchestra. This free concert marks the beginning of Bach Institute Outreach to Lutheran churches and schools in Wisconsin, Missouri, and Indiana. The full schedule is available here.
