The University Theatre presents “Let the Right One In”

Tickets are available now for the fall play, “Let the Right One In,” an enchanting yet brutal vampire myth and coming-of-age love story adapted from the bestselling novel by Jack Thorne and award-winning film by John Ajvade Lindquist.

Director and Associate Professor of English, George Potter, describes the play as, “[an exploration of] ideas of coming of age, deciding what kind of person you want to be, how people respond to trauma, first love, and gender and sexuality…. The play focuses on a middle school boy who is trying to figure out what matters to him in the world, who he wants to be, and who he wants in his life, and most of the people around him have let him down. So there’s a really personal story that a lot of people can relate to about finding yourself in the face of failed systems around you.”

Bringing the horror genre to the stage is a challenge for the actors and technical crew. Potter explains, “We’re going to have some spectacular stage moments with the horror aspects of the show. There have been all kinds of blood experiments going on in the VUCA since the start of the semester. So I think they’re going to be a very visceral experience for genre fans that you don’t get when watching a horror film in a cinema or at home. However, we’re also working hard at making it a human story beyond the horror.”

“Let the Right One In” will run for two weekends: October 25-27 and November 1-3. Ticket information may be found here.
